March 26th, 2002 by Alkini

Version 1.0.1 of the educational game GCompris (screenshots) has been released; changes since version 1.0.0Pre4 include:

  • new board to teach space orientation
  • new board to teach colors
  • the Slovak translation has been created
  • better mouse pointer
  • the draw board now includes a grid that makes it possible to introduce new activities like ‘reproduce this’
  • now works well in other locales, e.g. Lithuanian

While Gcompris is not something I play around with, I’m glad it’s there. The massive number of sub-games available for it is stunning — multi-lingual too! My nephew and one of my nieces like it, though the niece likes Exult more! [wipes tear from eye]

Either way, if you have kids or are the favorite relitive, Gcompris is one to add to the list.

Another crowd pleaser for those under 10 is a KISS paper doll viewer. Yep, mostly for girls, though there are some space, weappon, and other object ‘dolls’ available.
