TransGaming: Max Payne & DX8 Progress; New Polls

TransGaming has announced that they have reached a significant milestone in DirectX 8 support in WineX: a portion of Max Payne now works screenshot. So far it is only the tutorial that they have working, but they plan to have the rest working soon. In the announcement, TransGaming cites this as the first major success of their voting system. So, on a related note, the polls for February are up.

    … development progressing like this. My only major gripe (and that of other TG subscribers) is that, at the moment, we do not benefit from these changes. If there were daily (or at least weekly) unstable builds we could test out and provide feedback on, I’m sure development would speed up even more – and subscribers would be happier.

    I’ve had zero success running any games under Winex so far, so this isn’t good news for me. For example, I can’t install Half Life, as it just dies 70% into uncompressing the installer, and even if I run it from a Windows partition, it doesn’t work.

    Another game for publishers to point at and say “See, we don’t need to port to Linux”. Meanwhile, when we try to show freinds how cool our Linux is, Max Payne will crash and glitch and embarass us until we give up trying to demo it. Great.
