What about the Japanese PS2 box and the Japanese version of PS2Linux?

Can I use any Japanese PS2 and does the Japanese PS2Linux support english as default?

I’m asking, for I have a lot easier to buy a Japanese PS2 than a american.

Now I *gotta* get a PS2. :-) Though, I wish the Linux kit could be used on the TV. Also, could Loki games see a second life on this?

I admit the idea of Linux on the PS2 sounds cool, but what exactly is the point?

Will you be able to develop ps2 games and distribute them to others, or will other people be required to have the Linux kit in order for them to use whatever you make?

Sync-on-green? Does that seriously mean you only get to use a green-colored display? I remember using one fo those way back in the day. I don’t understand. What’s the point of limiting the use of the display? I thought the whole point was to take advantage of the ps2 graphics power. Maybe this sync-on-green is just a certain way to synchronize monitors to the graphics adapter?

Is the whole point to transform the ps2 into small computer?

Please answer. I’m honestly confused.

To clear up some stuff:

* Comes with an alpha mesa with some hw accel
* TVs can be used after the machine has had linux installed
* You can use VNC and not use a monitor at all =)

I kind of wish that it shipped with Linux 2.4.X and XFree86 4.X /w DRI, but I guess there will be some fun in acomplishing the updates w/o Sony’s help, though, the XF86/DRI part may not be feasible, but I would like to run Kernel 2.4.
