Adonthell 0.3

January 29th, 2002 by Alkini

Kai Sterker from the free RPG project Adonthell wrote in to announce Adonthell 0.3:

At long last Adonthell v0.3 is finished! Together with the RPG engine, asmall demo game is available: Waste’s Edge. Due to the early state of the engine it resembles an Adventure game rather than a RPG, but it is fully playable and should keep you busy for an afternoon at least. Have a look at some screenshots first, then download.

The main purpose of this release is to attract new programmers, artistsand writers in order to shorten the time until the next version. So if youhave experience in C++ (and optionally Python), or if you are good atcomputer graphics or writing we would like to hear from you. Please have a look at our development site for further details.

I just downloaded it, and tried it a little, it seems good.
However, I would like some proper fullscreen, have to look into that somehow…

I built my own distribution (i.e. compiled it) and can’t get it to work. The trouble is mainly with the swig crap (which I wasn’t even aware of before I downloaded this for the first time – way to go document the program dependancies, adonthell team….), but also with a few syntactic errors that gcc 3.0.X doesn’t like in the c++ sources. I managed to fix most of these, but the swig wrapper won’t compile afterwards! (variables like “$1″ and “$input” keep appearing the the generated wrapper… I presume they weren’t properly dealt with by swig in its interface file.)

So I thought, “screw this, I’m doing worldforge stuff.”
