That’s funny, if only because I downloaded and installed 2.4.17 today. I was reading LG and thinking, “Wow, you’d think someone on my Linux Users’ Group list would have mentioned if that was a new kernel release…”

To be fair, 2.4.17 is a damn fine kernel, and I highly recommend upgrading to it if you’re going to do a recompile soon anyways.

nice old news ;) just wondered if i wouldnt have 2.4.17, but my uname said :
    Linux iapetus 2.4.17 #2 Sam Dez 22 13:19:37 CET 2001 i586 unknown

so 2.4.17 is a bit older than today ;)

I upgraded my home system from 2.2.19 to this new 2.4.17 kernel. After much upgrading of other libraries and utilities, the work has been worth it. The whole system feels considerably faster and my UrbanTerror ping times to nearby servers over PPPoE have dropped from around 70ms to 35ms which totally rules :-) The Nvidia drivers seem to work fine with this kernel and I even managed to coax my Aureal drivers to play as well. Good gaming kernel. Next up – time to investigate the low-latency kernel :-)

    Cheers,
    Toby
