New WineX Packages
November 28th, 2001 by AlkiniTransGaming has announced that new packages of WineX have been made available. Changes include:
- Support for running SafeDisc protected games, like Alice, Sacrifice, etc
- Support for running SecuRom protected games, like Diablo 2
- With the SecuRom support, Diablo 2 Battle.net now works
- Several installer bugs have been resolved, including problems with the full version of Alice, and window order issues
- Improving sound playback in many programs, including Quake engine games like Half-Life, and Alice, as well as many others, including Tony Hawk Pro Skater, and Dave Mira BMX
- Improving DirectInput handling of Joystick devices to cease claiming that we support force feedback (we don’t for the moment). This fixes launch problems with Tony Hawk Pro Skater
- Fixing mouse grabbing issues with OpenGL games that try to go into full screen mode at lower resolutions like 640×480. This was one of the more serious issues with Alice
- A merge with WineHQ code, which fixes color issues with 2D games like RollerCoaster Tycoon, among other changes. We have worked around a speed reduction issue that cropped up in the WineHQ merge
- Updates to the shell integration features, which should now automatically install menu entries and desktop icons when installers add them
- Reverting to using asynchronous updates for 2D drawing. The initial WineX release used synchronous updates, which can be slow under some circumstances. This should speed up games like Starcraft
Note that the pre-packaged WineX downloads are only available to TransGaming subscribers.

with HL/CS when I get home from work today. Now that the sound lag is good that will be a plus. The next thing they need to do is patch up the 2D side of things. =)

When I play “Baldur’s Gate I,” I am a little bugged by the way the fog outside my viewing radius works. Basically, the transparency is fine, but when it comes to the edges I think the programmers wanted to have a square with some fog on the bottom that fades into my field of view, what I actually get is an upside-down square with the fog on top fading into a clear view, and then the hard edge of the rest of the square blocks that make up the fog.

From my tests, SecureRom does not function with with the cvs version of winex. I thinks it is rather unfortunate that Transgaming uses seperate codebases for the binarys they release, and the source they publish. Makes you wonder what else they hide. /me goes back under his bridge.

I have a doubt …
The code used for the binaries version of wineX and the
source in sourceforge.net/projects/winex is the same?
If I compile the code from source, it will have the same compatibility of the binaries, or the binaries version have some code that don“t come with the sources in sourceforge?
thanks..

Heh, Half-Life runs a good bit better. It ran good before, but the mouse input is smoother now.
Same goes for ST: Elite-Force.
Still can’t get Star Wars Racer to run, keeps complaining that it needs DirectX 6.1… which doesn’t make sense as wineX is supposed to support up to Dx 7.

I just downloaded the CVS tree today and it doesn’t even compile.
I keep getting errors when compiling the ddraw hal.c when it includes gl.h.
They have some REALLY Whacked out headers.
ddraw/gl.h:65: parse error before `PFNGLACTIVETEXTUREARBPROC’
ddraw/gl.h:65: warning: no semicolon at end of struct or union
ddraw/gl.h:65: warning: type defaults to `int’ in declaration of `glClientActiveTextureARB’
