TuxRacer 1.0 Retail FInished

November 27th, 2001 by

Sunspire Studios has given notice that the retail version of Tux Racer has been completed. The posting on the Sunspire website was made almost two months ago, on 2 October 2001, but it wasn’t brought to the public’s attention until this Slashdot story. Sunspire states that the retail version will contain low-detail options for less powerful computers and a split-screen mode for head-to-head competition. However, Sunspire still requires a publisher as well as funding for direct online sales.

The retail version of Tux Racer will contain Windows, Linux, and MacOS binaries.

…who’s going to be the first one to play Tux Racer Retail 1.0 for Windows using WINE? :^D

It’s too bad that it won’t be out in retail stores till 2002.

Topic says it all. I’m waiting to see that game on tuxgames or something similar. No matter how expensive it will get, I NEED that game ;)

You’d think by 1.0 they would have higher quality character models. Those ones in the screen shots look *really* cheesy. And the fish look kinda horrible, too. (Of course, I’ve always hated the fish; just an annoyance to the game, having to grab them instead of going free-form).

    Why?

Give an address, I’ll mail a check, send me a CDR burned with the Linux binaries.

Just been looking at the screenshots. Looks great! I particularly like the addition of buildings. Plus, gotta love Boris, the inner-tube riding polar bear! :-) Hope this game finds a publisher soon.

Is there any way to make it past the “Canadian Cup?” I run through the first 3 courses, and …. nothing to click.

I’m sure I’m missing something obvious.
