I used to get segfaults on initialising GL with the latest drivers.
I’ve heard that changing the display manager from kdm to gdm fixes it but it didn’t for me. (To change add DESKTOP=GNOME to /etc/sysconfig/desktop). Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to use KDE – if you’re into that kinda stuff ;].
The fix I found was to make /dev/agpgart read/writable by all (chmod ugo+rw /dev/agpgart). For some reason this wasn’t happening.
