April 20th, 2001 by Crusaderzakk pointed out that version 0.0.4b3 of q2hack,the utility which allows Quake 2 to use XFree86′sDGA mouse handling to enhance mouselook accuracy, is now available.

Do these people get the source code for quake 2 somehow? (The real source code. Not the SDK, that is only for adding stuff to the “game” part of it, not the graphics engine, I think.) Are these people using gdb to add asm to the binary somehow, and then creating a patch that way? I see these things for most “cool but discontinued” games and things, but I never know how they do it!

Wow, XF4′s glx support is the first time I’ve seen Q2 running in gl mode under Linux in some time. Support for full screen mode would be a big help as well. I note that quakeforge is now quite usable, though I realize that’s primarily because of the Q1 source release. Something similar would allow the use of Q1 through Q3 in GL mode for the first time in quite a while.
