The documentation for this implamentation was quite poor, so i have made a checklist that makes it easier for the newbie...
[br]
[br]
1.	Install Q3 for linux like normally (a fresh install is best for this)
[br]
2.	Install the 1.17 point release patch for linux.
[br]
3.	Un-tar the 1.27 package by entering the directory it was downloaded to and then using the command "tar -xzvf linuxq3a-1.27g-beta1.tar.gz". This should make a directory called "quake3" in the same directory as the package is in.
[br]
4.	Transfer all of the files in the newly-created quake3 folder to the quake3 folder that contains q3 arena for linux (usually /usr/local/games/quake3). Do NOT just copy the directories from one folder to another, just copy the files to their respected folders. Let it overwrite those files with its new ones of necessary. Make sure to replace the binary as well (the file named quake3.x86).
[br]
5.	Mount the Team Arena CD, then go into the setup folder and you will see a folder called "missionpack". Copy the package within that folder to the "missionpack" folder that was created when you installed q3 arena for linux.
[br]
6.	Start the game... then select mods from the main menu, and then select "missionpack". This will set you up.
[br]
[br]
NOTE: There is a fair pause when the game starts up... perhaps 10-15 seconds or so. Be patient, you will be rewarded with an AWSOME game.
[br]
[br]
7. (optional) Write id Software and tell them you appreciate the fact that they included the binaries on their website and that you DO appreciate them unofficially supporting linux, but still you would have rather had them on the disk in the first place... Until linux games are offered in Wal-Marts around the world, no one will take it seriously as a viable gaming platform... Linux-only CD's ARE suicide for a company, but Games should be written for ALL platforms (yes... Macs too). Id has been a leader in multi-platform gaming, and should be saluted for their efforts to do so. It as well has allowed them to be one of the most prosperous gaming companies for their size as well, so they know the value in offering their games on obscure platforms. Its just too bad that they diddn't follow in UT's footsteps and offer them on the disc.
[br]
[br]
My Ending Comments on Q3 Team Arena: Game = 9.6, Effort to Port to Linux = 7.0, Port Quality = 9.6, Port Ease of Use = 3.0, Finding Patches (including prerequisite 1.17 patch) = 4.0.
[br]
[br]
You guys do rock, but you could do better for the linux community. Show us the effort and we'll show you our money.
[br]
[br]
Sincerely, Brendan.
