Linux 2.4.0-test11 NVdriver Patch
November 28th, 2000 by Crusaderridicully wrote in to let us know that the most recent test releases in theLinux 2.4.0 kernel series have broken NVIDIA driver support, which has not yet been patchedby NVIDIA. For those of you who live on the bleeding technological edge,Christian “phoenix” Zander has released a patch for the NVdriver kernel modulewhich should render the driver functional again; obviously, this is an unofficial solution for the time being.

Unfortunately, there’s still no fix for tnt1/2 card owners with regards to the 0.9-5 drivers. Apparently there was an accidental OGL regression error introduced into the 0.9-5 drivers which causes problems in OGL on some tnt1/2 cards. 0.9-4 works, however, not with the 2.4.0 kernels. It also can freeze your system when leaving X. I know I should upgrade my dinosaur Viper 550, but for what I use it for, it pretty much works. Seems like a shame to toss it. Anyway, I wish there was either a) New Drivers with TNT1/2 support; or b) A fix that allows me to use 0.9-5 with my TNT1 card.

I doubt that NvidiA is going to address this issue until 0.9-6, which I dont see coming until the 2.4 final kernel is released. Im sure that 0.9-6 will fix this issue and some other minor problems when it comes.. although improved agp performance would be nice.. :)
