Aureal Sound Driver

August 22nd, 2000 by Alkini

Loki’s Sam Lantinga wrote to the SDL mailing list to let it be known that he got the latest CVS version of the Linux Aureal Driver working. He writes:

For those of you reporting problems with SDL and the Aureal sound drivers, I just tested the latest CVS version of the Aureal Linux sound drivers with the 2.4.0-test6 kernel on a PII 300 single processor system, and they worked great! :)

Kudos to the Aureal driver team. :)I’m looking forward to the official driver release!

The Aureal Sound Driver that is at sourceforge.com was NOT developed by Aureal. It is the Aureal 1.05 release drivers that have been tweaked by users. Check out http://www.vortexofsound.com for more info on Aureal’s bankruptcy(sp?) proceedings. It is unlikely that we will see Linux drivers released from the company that is Aureal today. :(

I had previously D/Led 1.1.0 of the Aureal driver from SF, which I must say i was VERY impressed by given the Aureal release, but I still was getting sound stutters and or wierd graphical glitches in my SDL games when using the driver, has SMP support been made more stable with this release?
