I have to strongly agree. Just because something is far superior doesn't translate into being more popular. Look at the playstation 1 for instance. It is no where near as advanced as other consoles out there but it's probably the most played on console. I think cost, games, and number of games will be the biggest issue. The audience for console games are generally not computer users from my expeirence and they want a console that is under 300 dollars, that has games under 50 dollars, and that has games they are familiar with like final fantasy, zelda, metroid, catslevania, etc..... I personally don't see the X-box being a big success.

I think M$ is being extraordinarily ambitious by thinking they can just break into the console market and be a smash hit. What no one's taking into account is that the console market is (of course) designed for one thing.

GAMES MAN! GAMES!

Sony, when they unveiled the playstation, got extremely lucky in that they already had some kickass games lined up, with more on the way. The PSX started out good, and just kept getting better. The type of people that spend a good chunk of their paychecks on games for consoles like the PSX or the Dreamcast, ala Gabe or Tycho from P.A. - are the type that really have no brand loyalty. They just play what's good. If M$ just assumes they can become a true player in the already saturated console market by resting on brand recognition alone, they will most certainly die an agonizing death. "No timmy, we put the XBox next to the Intellivision where it belongs!"

As much as i hate M$ i must say that i think the XBox _will_ take off big time. Id bet my ass that M$ will assure that there will be good games out (They just bought bungie so theyd release Halo for the XBox). And concerning the Price i think M$ is the company that could stand dumping the prices for the longest time period, so i dont think that will be a problem, either.
