Heavy Gear II Demo
June 20th, 2000 by CrusaderLoki Entertainment Software has released a demo for their mecha-based 3D tactical game, Heavy Gear 2. This is for Intel CPU-based Linux systems; system requirements can be perused here. The demo is around 64MB; a mirror list will be available here shortly.

Well, the menus and interface looks great.
However, whenever I try to actually play the game segfaults with:
“Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)”
System:
uname -a: Linux john 2.2.13-SMP #1 SMP Mon Nov 8 16:05:52 CET 1999 i686 unknown
2x celeron 500, not overclocked
192MB RAM
Abit BP6 MoBo
G400 video
XFree86 3.3.6
Mesa 3.0
Tried using software mesa atm. (This is my main box and I don’t want to put XFree4.0 and UtahGLX on it until they’re more stable…)
Any ideas?

After some investigation it seems tha game need HW acceleration.
So I put in SuSE’s g400 glx extension and BAM! Heavy-Gear II goodness…..
