Am I right in that this only supports glide (3dfx cards) in linux?

According to the readme.txt file in the demo, Terminus supports Glide with XFree86 3.3/4.0 or OpenGL with XFree86 4.0 using DRI.
By using trial and error with the video settings, I’ve got it to (just about) work with XFree86 3.3 and Utah GLX on a Matrox G200.

ipfoot – how’d you get it working? I have a G400, xfree86 3.3.6 and utah glx, but none of the 3d stuff shows up. THe instructions say that Matrox users have to install Xfree 4.0, but 4.0 doesn’t work with my monitor and mouse.
