"The story on that has never come out mostly because Gordon refuses to discuss it which makes me tend to believe that it was something that he did or didn’t do."

Ever heard of NDAs?

"There are others that have been involved with way more ports than him. Hes just the most famous of the group."

Horseshit. Edward Rudd may come somewhat close.

"But anyway, now that steam is coming, maybe we’ll see ports of stuff like Final Fantasy appear on Linux."

I'll believe it when I see it... not that I care.

"Because he has been involved in more Linux ports of games than probably any other man alive?"

Ryan Gordon is a hero to the Linux community, and so is Gabe/Valve. As a long-time Linux user, Valve has earned my business and loyalty for years to come.

Who cares if they are only interested in profit? They are a business and businesses need to make money to continue to exist.

For those that are worried about Steam and DRM, most of the non-Valve games will be available outside of Steam. So if you would rather buy games off the company's website, or from other sources (e.g. Desura), in most cases you should be able to.
