Monday Musings
September 17th, 2012 by Crusader- Obsidian Entertainment, a relatively large AAA RPG developer, has a Kickstarter project to develop a new title (which aims to be similar to games like Planescape: Torment) which just added Linux support as a stretch funding goal (2.2 million), as the project’s already raised 1.4 million in a few days.
- Wolfire Games’ rabbit combat game Overgrowth has a new alpha video changelog.
- For those that would like to play the various Windows-focused DLC packs for Gratuitous Space Battles (which was released for Linux in a Humble Indie Bundle a while back), I noticed this script was posted on the game’s forum to install them under Linux.

Obsidian Entertainment indicates that the game will be downloadable via Steam PC and it freaks me out !
Without considering GNU/Linux, it is a strange choice.
Unless they provide a DRM free download I’ll not support this project.

The kickstarter page says they are looking into the DRM free thing. I guess it takes lots of agreements from non-technical people… what bugs me is that the linux port has been put at twice the funding goal. I’m not backing this, but I’ll buy the game if it ever comes out on linux.

I dont mean to hijack the post or anything, but I just bought linux-torchlight from the humble indie bundle. I was shocked that it wasn’t posted here.

With Update 6 today, they’ve decided to throw in Linux support already.
“Mac and Linux will still require time and effort from us to test, maintain and support but Unity gets us most of the way there. In fact, our experience with Unity so far has made us confident enough that we have decided to remove Linux support from the stretch goals and just commit to providing a Linux version right here and now!”
