RAGEin’
May 9th, 2011 by CrusaderA few items relating to the next id Software title, RAGE:
- EDGE spoke with Tim Willits about how mod development will likely shake out with RAGE with built-in tools on the PC-side (note: as with Neverwinter Nights, this might not necessarily mean it’ll be the case with Linux); also of note is an update on Doom 3/id Tech 4′s open source release:
“That’s mostly up to [id co-founder] John Carmack,” Willits explained, “he sets the schedule for that. But his philosophy of maintaining that type of connection with the community hasn’t changed.”
- Shacknews interviewed producer Jason Kim at length about the post-apocalyptic shooter, covering such topics as developing adversarial AI behavior.
- Bethesda Blog has a new 5 minute gameplay trailer that follows a mission against the Shrouded Clan (hey, spiderbots are back!):

There is still no confirmation if the game will come out in Linux or no…

it’s pretty clear already, that the game won’t come out for linux, so why keep posting about it?

Have to agree with the above two posters. Id has been good to Linux in the past, but always on its spare time. Linux has never been a priority for them, and its looking like even less of one as time goes on. It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on whatever they’re doing, but until Doom 3′s source code is released I don’t see them generating any genuine Linux news.

To quote TTimo: “I’ll be damned if we don’t find the time to get Linux builds done”.

Indeed, until there’s a linux port announced we really don’t need to hear news about rage.
As for how the game looks, it’s quite pretty, if a bit drab, but the gameplay looks astonishingly poor, these previews are obviously being played with a console controller, i can’t see it being any fun at all for those who can actually aim.

Every single PC game from ID Software so far has been in the same situation, with no official word of a Linux client, and every single PC game from ID Software has had a Linux client anyway.
This time we have ID Software themselves saying that they definitely expect to release a Linux client, and still most comments here are about how you choose not to believe in it and would rather no hear about the game?
…I don’t get it.
