GOG NWN
November 2nd, 2010 by CrusaderClassic PC game retailer Good Old Games now has the role-playing game Neverwinter Nights, developed by Bioware, available from their online store for $10 US.
Unfortunately, it’s the Diamond Edition, which is problematic to install in Linux. There’s an older Linux install guide for the original retail release of Diamond, but I don’t know how much of it still applies (I can’t test as I’ve had NWN since the original pre-expansion pack release). Anyone willing to take a chance and see?
There are also two contests running until November 24, to celebrate the release of Neverwinter Nights:
The game provides players with very an useful and extensive set of tools to create their own quests and adventures. We encourage gamers to create a NWN module entitled “The DRM Monster and the Treasure of GOG” :). For those of you who are skilled enough, we encourage you to take part in the second contest where you have to create a model of the evil DRM monster. From all entries we will reward the authors of the 5 best quests and the author of the best model of the DRM monster with free GOG games, plus we’ll post a special mod spotlight highlighting the winning entries.

It doesn’t really sound as a challenge…
It already was unzip this and that.
Well, you probably just need to install using wine, and then cp the stuff, and fiddle the key from the registry file.
I will be buying it. Just because it’s so much easier than all those cd’s I have :-).

Follow the instructions here

Here’s the cliff notes

The Bioware updates will over write the nwncdkey.ini, so keep a copy outside of your ~/nwn directory.
I had to edit the export LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the nwn start script to remove ./lib to get sound to work.
Everything appears to be working fine on Slackware64 multi-lib.

Arch Linux has a script in it’s AUR that will install and set up everything for the Diamond Edition, works well with the DVD. Hopefully it can be tweaked to support the GOG release.
