Dwarf Fortress 0.31.09
July 11th, 2010 by CrusaderThe incredible Nemoder let me know that the popular Dwarf Fortress has been updated to 0.31.09 fixing many of the combat bugs and other problems. See the full release notes for details.
Dwarf Fortress is a real-time fantasy simulation in which the player manages a colony of industrious dwarves. While there is no way to win, per se, there are nearly infinite ways to lose. Most of these can be hilariously fun.
The default game is rendered entirely in ASCII characters (screenshot) however there are several very nice 3rd party graphical tilesets for those seeking less eyestrain (such as Mayday – screenshot).

I created an unofficial installer with mojosetup that will download the game and your choice of tileset.
If anyone tries it let me know if it has problems: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2652

this game is awesome, but I should warn people who might want to start playing of the amount of time they are going to waste on this little gem.

Nemoder, maybe you should contact Loki Installers for Linux Gamers to host that installer for you. It would also give it more publicity.

It there something like this for a sci-fi like universe/world ? I am not into trolls, elfs, dwarfs and magic stuff. Just wondering…

paines, just because something has space ships instead of elves doesn’t make it sci-fi. Star Wars is Fantasy, so is Star Trek.
