Humble Indie Bundle
May 4th, 2010 by CrusaderThanks to the many, many readers who notified us (seriously, this may be the most e-mailed/submitted item in the site’s history) about this incredibly awesome venture from the developers of World of Goo, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru HD and Penumbra Overture: The Humble Indie Bundle.
Pay what you want. If you bought these five games separately, it would cost around $80 but we’re letting you set the price!
All of the games work great on Mac, Windows, and Linux. We didn’t want to leave anyone out.
[...]
Your contribution supports the amazing Child’s Play charity and Electronic Frontier Foundation. By default, the amount is split equally between the seven participants (including Child’s Play and EFF), but you can tweak the split any way you’d like.
Get amazing games, support independent game development, support amazing independent game development FOR LINUX, contribute to deserving charities… seriously, there’s no downside here people! I already have most of these games but I don’t mind re-buying them under these circumstances.
The sale only lasts another six days, so don’t wait around if you intend to participate!
Edit: I just realized that this is the first opportunity we’ve had to purchase Aquaria on Linux at all, so there’s at least one game that none of you should have!

I already have World of Goo and Penumbra, but what the hell… Even if I end up not liking the others, it’s definitely worth a shot…
I just hope they don’t get a lot of idiots all giving them just a penny, like 2D Boy did when they did their stand-alone WoG name-your-own-price sale…

Hmm, already have most of them, but maybe Aquaria really is worth it. I’ll have a look.
@Agrajag: I’m quite sure you will (at least) like Gish ;^>

I like the fact, that all the pay what you want things I’ve seen, linux users give the most
From the site (averages):
Win $7.04 Mac $9.76 Linux $13.81

Unfortunately, it won’t run for me:
*sigh* The drawbacks of trying to game on a server/workstation system (CentOS 5.4), I suppose…

If they reach $1 million USD, then Lugaru, Penumbra, and Gish become open source games!

Talking to John myself, he verified it for me:
Sir Gallantmon (ニール・ゴンパ) says (3:29 PM):
*so, if you guys reach $1mil before the deal ends, will you guys really release the source code as it said in the video?
*for Lugaru HD, Gish, and Penumbra?
contact@wolfire.com (E-mail address not verified) says (3:29 PM):
*yes

Awesome, maybe I’ll be able to compile my own version of Gish that’ll work on my system, then! ;-)

Woot! They made it to $1,000,000 and are following through with the open source!
