Tried the demo on windows, just wondering, am i missing something? as far as i can see, this is a minor variation of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbattle" rel="nofollow">xbattle</a> with less options and less strategical elements. Actually i have not played xbattle in a while, i would not be surprised if it has exactly the same game mode... so many options ;) - Galcon fusion is getting so much good press, is there some depth i missed?

I think I played the demo for this a couple years ago then found http://www.java-gaming.com/game/3080/Star_Baron/ . It isn't multiplayer but I like it much better. There is also a Java one some place that uses OpenGL2.0 that each planet can make ships with different stats as well as a need to decide to invest in production or attack now.
