Heroes of Newerth Preview
September 26th, 2009 by CrusaderI meant to post this quite some time ago, but that’s moving for you: Rock, Paper, Shotgun posted a preview of Heroes of Newerth, the DoTA-inspired multiplayer strategy game from the Linux-friendly developers S2 Games.
Also, if you’re a beta-tester you can pre-order the full game here. I haven’t had a chance to play it myself in over a month (and that initial experience was fairly rocky since I had never played DoTA), but this guide list at the forums looks promising.

This looks like the best game under development for linux at the moment.
What else do we have to look forward for at the moment? LGP have some unannounced game, Unreal Tournament 3 ..

Definitely hard to get started, but this is the best strategy game about. There is just -so- much to learn and master that it’s amazing.

i’ve preordered the game after getting into the beta and i’m very pleased with it’s progression. it’s a direct dota clone, that seeks to improve on the gameplay. there’s already so much more than there ever will be in dota and it’s not even released yet. the best part is, that you are not dependent on b.net and that there’s a friggin perfect linux client. s2, i love you!
and a big thanks to icefrog, because he had no problems with s2 cloning dota. he’s to thank for the dawn and progression of a really good game idea.

Bah! I had some time to try this out as I got a beta key but I just kept getting kicked out :-( Will try again at some point. I still can’t work out what DOTA is? Actually just figured that out. Looks nice, whatever it is.
