Americas Army 2.5 Deploy
Thanks to reader JonnyM (and others) for letting us know that an installation client for Americas Army version 2.5, Deploy is out for Linux:
2.5 Deploy is a Deploy Client for America’s Army, It is designed to make the process of Installing and getting up and running with AA as easy as possible.
If you are new to the game this little Application will fully automate the download and installation of the game from it’s own repository server and handle all the needed updates and checks. It will then guide you through the process of creating an account and then load your account details automatically when you first play.
Getting up and running with this free game is now as easy as a few clicks of the mouse.
If you already have America’s Army 2.5 this Application will make a copy of your existing installation and put it into a completely separate folder so it does not alter your existing installation and then bring everything up-to date. Once you are happy you may delete your old installation of AA if you wish.

Is 2.5 the latest version of the game? or the latest one for Linux? Or is this some kind of Wine masquerade? I thought they discontinued the Linux client of the game.

Yeah I’m kind of confused with this one. I stopped playing AA after 2.5 due it it not being ported. There’s still a lot going for 2.5 ajd I guess there’s still a lot of people still playing. Maybe I’ll check it out again :-)

AA 2.5 is the latest client for Linux, It has been around for a while but I had been hearing a lot of people have been having trouble installing the game and having problems with sound and mouse etc. So I decided to make 2.5 deploy so it would be much easier for people to get up and running with this game. There are currently 5250 Active users playing AA2.5 on the Mac and Linux platforms, I’m hoping this tool will help to increase that number.

Perhaps i should clarify that, I don’t mean there are 5250 players all online at once, But 5250 different people have been tracked in the last month… http://www.draat.net/stats

Are Mac users also stuck on version 2.5?
Is it possible to set up own servers?

Thanks jonnym. I will definitely try this out.

Yes Mac are also ’stuck’ on 2.5. Also a significant number of players use windows, they stay on this version so they can play their buddies who use Mac and Linux.
Yes you can run your own server…. See http://manual.americasarmy.com/index.php/Linux_Server
You do not have to download and install the server, You will find it in ~/.25deploy/armyops/System ./server-bin
on some linux distros you need to use this command first: export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.10
