* New shiny water shader (by jK). It uses bumpmaps, it is both pretty and fast (see pic).

Spring is an open source real-time strategy game inspired by Total Annihilation.

If anyone actually manages to play PURE single player on this release, I’d appreciate a tip on how to launch it!

I haven’t tried, but I guess there are still quite a few bugs left, which will have to be sorted out in the next couple weeks. It’ll be worth the wait!

Spring is making such huge advances in the actual game technology… Too bad it is still such a pain in the ass to install and run. Welcome to Linux gaming, circa 1990.

It’s only a pain in the ass if you try to build it from source, use one of the available distro packages or the binary installer if you want simple.

i agree with you – most people won’t make the effort to first install the spring engine and then the lobby client, mods and maps separately. I’d be very nice if a basic bundle was offered via services like the opensuse build service, that at least installs the basic stuff, such that it becomes intuitively clear how to obtain other stuff.
