PS3s with Pre-Installed Linux

February 18th, 2008 by Crusader

Terra Soft Solutions has announced that you can now purchase Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles from their online store with the Yellow Dog Linux distribution pre-installed. You can, of course, also install any distribution with ppc64 architecture support on any PS3.

I’ve had a PS3 I’ve been meaning to finish installing Gentoo on for a while now; has anyone done anything nifty with their console? I just wish Sony allowed GPU access

I still need to update my hard drive first. There are a lot of things I mean to do, but have not. Stuck playing the games instead, I hope to at some time seeing I really do not like the mp3 player, and have not found an easy way to transfer files from my gentoo box to the playstation (usb drive thus far). I would like to do it over the network. Plus not all of my mp3 images transfer over, not sure if they will from amarok, or something needs to be done. I have not really looked into much.

I’ve been thinking about why the company that installs root kits on windoze machines allows Linux to be installed on their consoles, albeit in a restricted form: I believe they do it for free advertising.
